At our after school program, A Life Worth Learning, we continue OMES’ mission to empower children as learners by allowing them to be co-creators of their curriculum, and by celebrating their individuality through collaboration.

In this program, our children’s curiosity will guide them through the expansive worlds and rich themes contained within classic tales from various cultures. Throughout each session, they’ll explore these stories through movement, expressive writing, murals, sculptures and song. This exploration will culminate in an exhibition that reimagines the timeless tales and their themes, illustrating the children’s individual and collective perception of these stories.

With every question can come infinite ideas and infinite ways to express them. Allowing children to learn and express themselves in ways that feel right to them is a crucial part of helping them to develop healthy identities. Our goals for each student are in line with this purpose. We want to give our children an opportunity to develop healthy relationships with learning and to build community through collaboration, eventually becoming community leaders themselves.

In line with our desire to create a learning environment that highlights each student’s interests and needs, OMES offers intensive one-to-one literacy instruction for children facing reading challenges. In this specialized instruction, we use a multi-sensory approach to stimulate and develop students’ phonological awareness and orthographic processing skills for stronger decoding, instant word recognition, and fluent reading. As each child’s reading skills grow, so will their confidence and desire to learn.

Our program has been designed for kids from 5 to 12 years old.
